Type of Services Offered:
The Responsible Men program is a domestic and family violence perpetrator intervention program provided by YFS for men who are using violence and coercive control in their current or past intimate partner relationships. The program is a 32 hours/16 sessions group program. In addition, participants engage in a 1 hour group orientation session, and at least 3 individual sessions comprising of assessment, progress review, and exit sessions. We focus on how men can take responsibility to change their beliefs, their behaviour and decision making without using violence, and how to use this knowledge to make positive, ethical change for healthy, respectful, and safe relationships.
Program facilitators accomplish this by engaging with participants through asking fertile questions that lead to critical reflection and open discussion about behaviours and positive change, and challenging constructively to invite men to think critically on the beliefs that support abusive and controlling actions. The three key priorities that drive this work are: increased safety; increased accountability and responsibility for behaviour; and increased respect.
