Program Description:

The Mens Domestic Violence Education and Intervention Program (MDVEIP) commenced in 1999 and is a partnership between DVPC and Queensland Corrective Services.  Men attend the program either as a condition on their Community Corrections Order, or by the Parole Board, or through a Reasonable Direction by Community Corrections Officer.
The program delivers the Duluth Curriculum “Creating a process of change for men who batter”. This involves delivering the nine themes on The Power and Control and Equality Wheels each over a three-week period. The Duluth Model invites men into a process of critical thinking, that is, the thinking behind their thinking, beliefs, and actions, and how this underpins their use of abuse, violence, and coercive control. It uses critical dialogue to invite the participants into considering different beliefs, thinking, and actions.
The program is a rolling group and men are required to attend for 27 sessions.  The sessions are co-facilitated by a male and female facilitator with each program accommodating a maximum of 16 men.
